FILTRATION APPLICATIONS

Environmental

Battery Recycling

Battery recycling processes involve mechanical and chemical treatments to extract valuable metals such as lithium, cobalt, and nickel. DrM filtration systems are used in black-mass treatment and hydrometallurgical steps to separate fine metal salts, carbon particles, impurities, or precipitates formed during leaching or neutralization. Their closed, automated design ensures safe handling of hazardous solids and supports high recovery rates while minimizing operator exposure and product loss. These systems are particularly well suited for circular economy processes in electric vehicle and energy storage industries.

Biodiesel

In biodiesel production, filtration is required to remove spent catalysts, glycerin byproducts, soaps, and particulates from the transesterification process. DrM filtration systems provide a fully enclosed and automated solution for polishing biodiesel and byproducts such as glycerol. FUNDABAC® filters improve phase separation, reduce emulsification issues, and allow for optional cake washing, all while meeting hygienic and environmental standards. Their flexibility supports both continuous and batch processes across diverse feedstocks.

Carbon Capture (CCS & DAC)

Carbon capture processes, including post-combustion amine scrubbing and Direct Air Capture (DAC), generate contaminated solvent streams that require reliable filtration to remove precipitated salts and particulate matter. DrM has extensive experience in this field, with more than 80 installations in gas sweetening and carbon capture worldwide. Both FUNDABAC® and CONTIBAC® filters are proven in CCS and DAC applications, outperforming disposable cartridges by reducing solvent loss, cutting operational costs, and offering longer cycle times with fully automated operation. Their closed, high-efficiency design supports pilot and full-scale installations across both technologies.

Flue Gas Desulphurization (FGD)

DrM filtration systems are used in flue gas scrubbing installations for both land-based incineration plants and marine exhaust systems. These applications require filtration of water contaminated with SO₂ and fine particulates. FUNDABAC® filters remove solids from the scrubbing loop in a fully enclosed, operator-free system, offering both dry and slurry discharge options depending on waste handling needs. Their compact footprint and automation make them particularly well suited for retrofits, marine installations, and emission control compliance.

Quench Water

Quench systems cool and scrub hot off-gases in thermal or incineration processes, producing large volumes of contaminated water with suspended solids and ash. DrM filtration systems provide an effective means to clarify this water, allowing for reuse or safe discharge. FUNDABAC® filters operate in closed loops, capturing even fine particulates while minimizing water loss. Their corrosion-resistant design and optional precoat functionality extend service life and reduce maintenance in harsh environments.

Solar Cell Production

In solar panel manufacturing, wet chemical steps generate metal-laden or particle-rich wastewater requiring high-efficiency clarification. DrM filtration systems are used to separate polishing residues, etching byproducts, and sludges from process water streams. The enclosed, automated operation of FUNDABAC® filters supports cleanroom compatibility and low contamination risk. With scalable configurations, they provide robust performance in both crystalline silicon and thin-film photovoltaic manufacturing.

Waste Incineration Gas Treatment

In municipal and industrial waste incineration, gas scrubbing systems remove acidic gases and particulates from exhaust streams using recirculated scrubbing liquids. DrM filters remove the resulting sludge from these liquids, reducing system fouling and improving emission control. FUNDABAC® filters offer closed, fully automatic operation with no manual cake handling, making them a safer and more efficient alternative to filter presses, especially in space-constrained or marine applications.

Wastewater Treatment

Many industrial wastewater streams contain fine solids, metal hydroxides, or filter aids that require efficient separation. DrM filtration systems are ideal for polishing of complex effluents, including wastewater from silica production, chemical processing, or mineral handling. FUNDABAC® filters operate with minimal chemical input, high clarity output, and low maintenance. Their flexibility allows integration into zero-liquid-discharge systems or closed-loop water recycling in facilities focused on sustainability.
