DrM, Dr. Mueller AG was founded in 1982 by Dr. Hans Mueller (1913-1984), an engineering school graduate from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETHZ). It is the legacy of this brilliant industrial entrepreneur and creative inventor and whose influence lives on in the chemical process industry. His boundless imagination found expression in more than four hundred inventions for which patents were issued throughout his academic and industrial career. Several of these revolutionized chemical processes in numerous countries.
Today, DrM is still held privately and managed by highly trained technical and creative professionals. It is our primary objective to find and develop solid-liquid separation solutions which help us live in a cleaner environment while at the same time create significant financial benefit for our clients. The fully enclosed system design, automation, as well as the washing and drying operations of our filtration systems have had considerable influence in the achievement of these goals.
DrM is a global company with its headquarters in Switzerland and also maintains subsidiaries in the USA, Poland, China, India and Malaysia. Applications and uses of the FUNDABAC® and CONTIBAC® candle filters are widespread throughout the processing industries. All DrM filters and mixers are custom made to specifically suit the underlying process. Solutions are often developed on an individual basis.
Environmental responsibility is an essential aspect in the decision taking process of our management. Since many years the company policy factors in sustainability in maintenance and investment decisions to raise efficiency while at the same time minimize environmental impact through its operations. In practice we concentrate our efforts to manage natural resources in a responsible manner and consider options to use renewable energy.
Since 2009 DrM tracks a number of key values and prepares a yearly report where the following are analyzed:
Since the year 2011 where we reached a peak, the electricity consumption was gradually reduced by more than 25%. This was done by applying more energy efficient equipment and light sources.
Additionally, with the installation of photovoltaic roof-top panels approx. 80 MWh of solar energy is fed into the national power grid. This corresponds approx. 25% of our electricity consumption.
The building is heated by natural gas and oil. With the installation of new energy saving windows and improved insulation of the factory building the oil heater could be removed completely, while the natural gas consumption was reduced by more than 25% within 8 years.
Our manufacturing process mainly applies steel and plastics as raw material for the production of our filters. As a consequence our main waste materials are metals and plastics. Wherever possible, these are recycled back to our suppliers for reuse or sent to recycling facilities. The amount of this commercial waste could be reduced by more than 25% within 10 years.
Our Chemical waste is limited to products we receive from our clients to run tests. Whenever possible, we send leftover material back to the origin, once testing is completed. However, a certain quantity needs to be disposed. This quantity remains at around 500 kg/yr and is of marginal relevance.
Water resource in Switzerland is not of major relevance. Nevertheless, consumption was optimized wherever possible and savings of around 15% were achieved.
Our systems are designed with fully automatic operations and use closed concepts which do not put the environment or humans at risk and allow filtering with zero emissions. Due to the compactness of our products, we are able to optimize the space needed and reduce project footprint.
We do not offer standard, off-the-shelf filtration packages. We tailor-design each solid-liquid separation system to the specific application parameters of our clients. We offer stand-alone candle filters as well as fully automated skid-mounted turnkey systems. We view every application as a challenge to satisfy our clients, regardless if the application is straightforward or complex.
Our vibratory mixing product offering consists of a hand-full of standard models with many options to suit both technical and budget requirements.
Every solid-liquid separation application is unique. DrM’s comprehension of all of the applications begins with a discussion with the client and is followed by a request that the client complete an application questionnaire to the best of its ability.
Following a review of the information submitted by the client, DrM application specialists may suggest that on-site testing and/or piloting be carried out. This hands-on work ultimately gives both DrM and its clients the confidence that the process is scalable. It also puts DrM in a position to submit a technical/commercial proposal that it will stand behind.
